Information is a word.
In order for a word to be meaningful, it must be defined.
A word and its definition are two sides of a coin. Words are born out of definitions, and then their definitions are born out of the word, which is to say, they grow.
The meaning of a word is a function of its history and the use we are putting the word to. The second factor requires us to state / restate the meaning of the word when we use it.
Information is a spacial construct. It is characteristic of spacial constructs that the meaning of a datum is a function of its location in a space.
On the web, normal flow is a divergence from the law of the spacial construct. It is a useful tool for the creation of information, which means it can be used to create an event, the creation of a unit of information, but if it is allowed to leak out of that event, it gums the works. The discovery of normal flow leakage was one event that reversed the semantic web trend.
