the pits

My new water heater is the pits. I'm glad it makes hot water, but it's still a bill of goods.

For example, I might want a tank of hot water for doing the dishes, or a tank of hot water for running a bath. One tank would be more than enough for either of these purposes, but as soon as I start to wash the dishes or run the bath, cold water flows into the tank, and I no longer have a tank of hot water. (To compensate, the water heater immediately starts to run, even though I just washed a single dish, or even though, once I'm done with my bath, I won't need a new tank of hot water for hours.)

Another example: at our guest house I'm not able to fill a bath with fully hot water. I suppose I could ask a plumber about it, but they'll just scratch their heads and quote me some ridiculous amount to maybe - or maybe not - fix the problem for me (and, if I'll let them, it's almost a certitude they'll make some kind of mess out of my plumbing).

As a matter of fact, my plumbing is a mess anyway. That's a way of restating the problem.

And if I ask someone, anyone, what to do about it, basically they'll say there's nothing I (or they) can do about it.

How's that for service?

OK, this is my dream: equipping millions of homes with absolutely perfect plumbing.

More generally I am dreaming of creating a home services company whose first purpose at all times is to document the customer's needs, goals, and circumstances.
